I wonder if a DVD upscaler to improve the image quality of DVDs, and if so, whether it was necessary to HDMI or component cables to get the best result. Also purchase suggestions would be grateful.

If it is not ready for the leap to true, then the best HD-DVD conversion DVD players on the market are making Oppo. I included a link to submit for consideration. I currently own, have not found a better DVD player until the date of conversion.
